Anyone given these babies a run? ... or have they given you a run for your manhood!

frickin brutal, my coach got just got me doing them and MAN are they hard!

I can only get down to 90 degrees with 95lb and this is coming from a man that full squats as his day job. Its going to take some neuromuscular training/more hip stretching but im going to get em' a2g soon enough. Amazing for core stability too, i am finding that my chest is a bit tight but im working it out by holding 90 degrees and really squeezing my shoulder blades.

I think these are great for functional strength, ill report back when i can get a plate a side :p

Looks extremely dangerous. If that weight falls backwards there goes your shoulders and arms.

I throw these in once in a while, i love trying new things especially things that challenge my core as well as numerous other body parts at the same time. 95 lbs is usually what i work with for sets of 8-10 not sure about going to heavy with these babys..

They can be dangerous only if you don't know how to ditch the weight. But light weight works great for opening up the hips and over all strength and function.

It is also fundamental to the snatch...

The wider the grip the easier it is to get deep!

use bumpers, a platform and bail when things go wrong.

Tough to do.I find I have to grip the bar collar to collar and actually push with the heel of my palm to get it into place.

You`re supposed to do squats while holding the weight over your head? I`m sure there is some kind of cross over benefit in bodybuilding with this. It just looks like something that would take alot of time to master and a coach would be a must. In the meantime your size will go down while getting good at this. You think it`s really worth it?

I guess if it seems like fun to you give it a try.

It's not something I plan on devoting a ton of time to.It's just the realization that there is a weakness there, maybe it can be improved with just a little time and effort.A little dangerous without tiramisu's recommendations, yeah.

Every exercise is dangerous if done with improper form.

Overhead squats will show any excessive unbalance that you have in your body, specially shoulder girdle and hips.

As a direct relationship to BB I don't believe that there is any, but in a deloading phase they are fantastic, great CNS stimulus as well

a) it's fun
b) it's hard and it makes you strong
c) it's fun

The overhead squat is just one step in learning the overhead lifts. If you haven't tried adding in powercleans, high pulls, the snatch, clean and press, push press into your workouts occassionally you are missing out.

Not only because they are fun but explosive power carries over into strength which carries over into muscle and change does a body good.

there was a similar thread in the girl section!! check out the video of the chick squatting a plate a side!!

I do them... not with heavyweight though.. only 10lbs per side... do a clean with a squat, then a pushpress kind of movement then a full overhead squat then back down... kinda like three excercises in one... I think they are good for the core stuff... (fitness requires alot of core stuff!) plus its fun to watch the copycat guys who watch other peoples workouts try to do them!!!

I did overhead squats with 20 pounds per side with Leigh spotting me! my arms wobbled like crazy after 6 of them and i only made it to 8 lol

Ill hit up the UWO gym once i can get a plate per side and ill see what kind of comments i get, im expecting "omg that sooo dangerous!" and "dont squat down so far its bad for your knees!" and much much more... or just "wtf is that guy doing"

The first time i tried them with a bar i just did some 20 second isometric holds to stretch out and sink into position and i was shaking like crazy! Brutal things i tell ya

Dryvrgrl, 20lb per side isnt light for this exercise so thats sweet! And good idea with the combo workout ill give it a go.

If it was just your arms wobbling make sure you are locking everything out.. this will take a lot of stress off your shoulders etc.

I do overhead squats regularly... as do all of my clients... definitely an exercise that sets you apart. If you can dedicate some time to learn them, they will pay off big time!

Do them in a power rack with the safetys up high. They dont have to be dangerous at all.

I think he is just using scary as an excuse for not being able to do them :D

looks like a great way to incorporate core and more stabilizers. I think I may do a few at 100lbs just to see how it feels...
