As some of you know I just headed off to University last week and made it to the open camp for the Varsity hockey camp this weekend.

The coach was nothing short of thrilled with my performance and will most likely take me on as a "walk on" as I wasnt playing anywhere serious last year to be recruited from.

Im pretty stoked because Ive been wanting to play this level of hockey for a while.

Just wanted to share.

:)

(Hopefully #8 hasnt been taken yet)

its been longer than id like to admit, but thankfully the coaching staff recognizes ability that lacks some conditioning.

i cant go into serious detail where i played before or where im playing now as i dont want to incriminate myself lol...

Congrats bro! I'm 2 games into a 65+ game season and wondering how the hell I'm going to fit intense leg workouts in with 2-3 games per week. What kind of leg training routine do they get you to do at the university level?

there is a varsity hockey gym here that the players can use at their leisure.

im not sure what strength / conditioning regimines they have planned but i dont plan on straying too far from what i got from my strength coach over the past summer.

i have pretty much completely strayed from BB style training in favour of more functional strength exercises, as well as olypmic lifts for overall muscle development.

one thing i know for sure to cut from your program if you're doing it now is leg extensions. a completely useless leg exercise if you are trying to build functional speed and power in your quads. replace it with one legged squats (with resistance). watch how fast your first steps become after doing this for 6 weeks. front squats are my only form of dual leg squats no as well.

thats cool bro i played 2 and a half years in the O...and a couple more in junior a...but taht was all over 6 years ago....

anyways i asked how long youve been out because i wanted to see how long it took you to bounce back and get into playing shape...i had a whole shit load of personal problems the last 2 years so in the last 2 years ive only played 6 times and i just played for the first time in 11 monthes on sunday...it felt greeat to get back on the ice...and some things were surprisingly good still like shhoting/passing/stickhandling...and my edges...but i had no jump and no endurance and i felt like hell monday morning...very rough
