Nexus had some info about this in the archives but who knows when it will be up again.

How much do NSAIDs effect prostagladin release? and is this inhibition large enough to hinder mucle gains? if so, to what level?

I take alot of this type of drug ib as well as naprox.

I remember reading in a MD mag a few months back that they found nsaids to hinder muscle growth in a study. To what degree I don't know. Stick to tylenol and aspirin.

If you take a lot of Ibuprofen, take it with 75-150mg Ranitidine (generic acid reducer) aka Zantac, to avoid stomach burns. I had nasty stomach damage from Ibuprofen and now I can only take it alongside Ranitidine. Works very very well.

Is it okay to do that though?? I take ranitidine twice a week already.

Maybe I need it because of my past NSAID usage?

Anything I've read says NSAIDs do decrease protein synthesis.NSAIDs works on prostaglandins which are just one of the mediators of inflammation, other mediators still function correctly and start muscle tissue repair. Post exercise protein synthesis still occurs though to a lesser degree even with chronic NSAID use so hypertrophy should follow suit. All that said NSAID do inhibit protein synthesis but not dramatically enough to effect gains. Pain releif is far more valuable.

If nsaid like asa and ibuprofen had noticeable effects on anabolism, wouldn't we see muscle wasting in those taking them chronically? I don't believe the effect is significant, but I would caution that other side effects such as blood thinning and the attacking of the lining of the stomach give one reason to monitor and limit their use. Personally, of all the nsaid's, I find naproxen to be the most effective. You can easily get a prescription for it, or buy it in the states under the name "Aleve". None of these should be taken on an empty stomach, or for unlimited high dose duration.
