I want to start benching with bands but i've never actually seen anyone do it so I was wondering how exactly do you hook the bands to the bench and the bar?

I mean I think I can figure it out but since I dont want to accidently smash out all my teeth or something by accident so I figured I would see what you guys on here have to say first.

I have done it with large chains never with bands

With bands you need a connection point ?? Chains you don't If your on your own chains are great the just cost you need 6-8'X2 of 4'' link stainless tow chain one end has a ring that slips over bar.

As you move the weight link by link it gets heavier at the end of the movement

The only time I saw anyone benching w/ bands they used heavy dumbells to anchor the bands to the floor.

Do NOT do it for the first time without somebody else (somebody capable) keeping a firm hold on the bar the first couple of sets.

Yes. Anchor the bands onto heavy DBs. Make sure they are still taught when the bar is on your chest.

If this seems like too much work, take ONE band, hook it around each hand and around your back. It's not quite the same as far as instability goes, but will still provide the increase in resistance you're looking for.

Where should I attach the bands to the bar? where the weights go or where you grip it?

And were talking 2 seperate bands here right, one for each side attached to a heavy DB?

1. Put the bands where the weights go.

2. Two separate bands (one for each side) if anchoring them to DBs. A single if wrapping them around your back from hand to hand.

Not trying to be a dick, but please make sure you don't become one of "those guys" that learns just enough to hurt himself. The first time you unrack this set up, crazy shit WILL happen.

Just lookin' out for ya, dude.

Oh yeah, deffinatly gonna be just the bar + bands with a spotter for a few sets before I decide to even throw weights on the bar. Im deffinatly glad I asked first I figured people somehow anchored the bands to the bench itself somehow.

Im planning on useing the bands for mosty high rep technique work so hopefully I can avoid crushing my own face on the first rep lol.
