Quick question for you guys in BC. After having worked for the last 2 years i returned this summer to UBC for a masters degree program. Since June, i have been getting a billing sent in the mail by Revenue Services for basic MSP coverage of $60.00 month. Now in the past i never remembered paying this (i assume because it was covered through my parents, then my schooling when i was under 21, then throguh work..etc). I am in full time studies right now and get "extended" health coverage through sunlife through my school tuition but am i forced to pay this basic msp plan of $60.00/month indefinately? I tried calling the office but of course couldnt get through. I have just kind of ignored the monthly billing to this point and my account shows an outstanding amount of $256.00....any insight or info would be appreciated

If you are asking is this something that must be paid. The answer is yes to my knowledge. You must have med coverage, now most of us get covered through work, younger by parents etc..Now looks like you are on you're own full time student, so you need to pay this out of your own pocket. Too my understanding anyway.

You have to pay it. If you don't you would still be covered however if you ignore it you will end up with one big bill. Our health care is not free like some people preach. You cant stop the billing so just pay it.

If you qualify for premium assistance apply for it, that is the only thing that will make this go away. Be happy they only sent you a bill for $256 not a $1000 like the one I got! Thats right the first bill i ever got from MSP was a grand!

Ubc when u start work and if your employer covers u the billing will
stop but the charges conTinue but will be sent to your employer . but u will still be
responsible For anycharges incurred before your employer
takes over ie 250 u owe now

i'm surprised to learn of this... i never knew there were any provinces in canada where you were forced to pay for health care.
