It has come to our attention that the CBBF and
its affiliate associations are still sending threatening letters to
competitors all across Canada regarding being banned and/or suspended
for competing with "other" unrecognised organizations. KNOW YOUR RIGHTS!
THIS IS JUST A SCARE TACTICS. AN AMATEUR ATHLETE CANNOT BE SUSPENDED OR BANNED FOR COMPETING IN ANY OTHER ORGANIZATION OTHER THAN THE CBBF, AND ANY OF ITS AFFILIATE
ORGANIZATIONS. It is within your legal rights to be able to compete
within as many organizations as you wish as an amateur competitor.

If you do accept Pro Status from any organization, you will have
forfeited your rights to be considered as an amateur athlete, but that
is the only way that you can loose your eligibility as an amateur. Again,
please know your rights; amateur athletes CANNOT be suspended or banned
for competing with multiple organizations.

You can do the research for yourself. For example, in 1983 The NPC vs.
The AAU; the NPC President Jim Manion took the AAU to court for this
reason. The AAU stated to ban competitors who competed in NPC shows. The
AAU lost the case and it was stated that "amateur athletes cannot be
banner or suspended for competing in multiple organizations."

Maybe the CBBF should spend more time focusing on how to create opportunity
For its competitors instead of thinking of ways how to take opportunities
Away from them. The WBFF is not here to compete with anyone, or discourage
anyone From competing with multiple organizations. We are here to create
opportunity and Revolutionize the Fitness Industry. As you can see by the WBFF's track
record, we are doing just that.

I understand what you`re saying but say they can`t be banned they screwed out of placings... So for sure there will be some problems. Best of luck, hey, if I competed, I would do so in your federation.

I had a long chat with Paul Dillett on the phone last week. He agreed to come on CBBR, so we'll have him on before the wbff championships Sept 19... I'm sure he'll have lots to say :)

I also will add that I've competed in both the CBBF and WBFF and no one from the CBBF has threatened me with any type of suspension.

Exactly, won't be banned, but all the sudden some athletes are placing much lower than what they should be... like there isn't enough of that going on already.

Hmmm. I'm not sure how one can "loose" eligibility but I guess I'll take Paul's word for it.

My understanding of the CBBF instruction is that if someone is deemed a "pro" competitor, either by winning a "pro qualifier" or being given "special consideration" for "pro status" in another organization, then that individual loses all status within the CBBF and its affiliates because its an AMATEUR athlete organization!

For example, if someone is deemed or competes as a WBFF Pro then he/she will lose any standing within the CBBF because that athlete is now a Pro - no longer an amateur athlete... fair and pretty simple to me.

Anyone have the rules of CBBF to post up? Curious to see what their rules are. But yes, most organizations state that if you turn pro (which is money oriented) vs amateur, you can't compete again as an amateur in those organizations. The problems is with the money of the WBFF I presume as amateurs usually aren't allowed to accept cash prizes or compete for cash prizes.

Anyone have the CBBF rules?

bingo. there are a few names that could be said in the above.

as for what u said the grim repper. alberta gives a cash/bond to its provincial champions. at least they use too, so that throws that theory out the window.

I spoke with the MABBA Prez yesterday and he said what I have indicated above is accurate and correct.

The original ruling came from the IFBB based in Europe and when it was first communicated to the national affiliates (eg CBBF) the distinction between a Professional and an Amateur athlete in this specific policy was not made clear. Since then it has been re-stated with the more relevant definition as I stated above. Unfortunately I don't have the "official" statement but I have many clients who demanded a clear "ruling" so I got one from our Prez... so if anyone wants specific instructions I recommend you speak with your Provincial Prez.
