So we show up to the gym last night, like we do every week day, and there is a sign on the door that says, "The gym will be closed from noon on the 10th to 6am on the 14 in order to facilitate the changeover of ownership and equipment upgrades." The part I cant get over is that the owner is in Mexico on vacation! So it sounds like they are replacing most of the equipment and the rates are going up. I dont really know what to think right now. What do you guys think?

Interesting that as a regular gym goer, that you did not hear or get word of this.

People often talk, the reps, trainers, front head girl....but nothing leaked hu?

I believe that it would be stipulated in the contract, that they hold rights to change or make adjustments>?

Pull the contract out, and take a look:)

Sorry that you are missing out on a days workout, perhaps the changeover is for the best.

Ask the gym for a copy of your contract if you don't have it anymore. They have a copy they keep for themselves as well.

No I ment that I signed a liability waver, there is no contract.

On the bright side the new owner is a former Olympic athlete and coach.

A similar thing happened to me back in 1990...World Gym in Newmarket went broke and told no one! I went to work out and there was a sign on the door. I had just renewed my year membership. Thankfully a friend bought the gym and I worked out for free for years :)

i've seen three different gyms take money knowing they were going down and then skip town. all in the same town but over the course of 20yrs. doesnt sound like this is the case though.

The globo-gyms are a tough business. As much as I would love to own a gym the business model of rip-off memberships for people who don't work out just isn't sustainable and getting regular lifters to pay enough to keep you in business is hell.

I met the new owners today. It sounds like everything is going to be awesome. There is going to be 4 squat racks, Olympic lifting platforms and bumper plates!! They are replacing everything with brand new, top of the line equipment! cant wait!! :D

same sort of thing happend to me. I got to the front door of the gym and there was a sign on the door saying "gym closed indefinitely" so i called up the guys that worked there they told me they have no idea whats going on. They did say that owner walked away because he couldn't get new members. Now that gym is a warehouse.
