Anyone got one of these? Seems these will now kill off the plasma/lcd market.

too expensive right now.

last I saw you could buy a 11" OLED Sony XEL-1 for $2500US retail.

But two years after the pint-sized (and $2,500) XEL-1 television was released, what's happened to OLED television development? In a word: Nothing.

And nothing is what's likely to happen for the foreseeable future. Sony had previously hoped to release a larger OLED TV before the end of the year, but the company is now putting those plans on hold until at least 2010, according to the Wall Street Journal. What about laser TVs?? That's the future right there. Instant on and off. Perfect black (off is black)... imagine the refresh rate and response time!?

If only they could make diodes as small as pixels.... lol.

I know Mitsubishi has their LaserVue, and it looks pretty hot.. but it's rear projection. Kinda mixing the old with the new.

sony is making an OLED in 40" now and the price is reasonable. its an expensive ass tv but there are still pricier ones out there. it is credit card thin and sexy as hell but the picture quality isnt as good as some of the led and lcd tvs out there for similar money. i just got a sony xbr8 LED and its mind blowing. much better picture than the OLED and about the same money for a 46". just not as thin....

But really, how thin does it need to be? I'm sure your LED tv is just fine... and it's a tried and true technology.. with a longer life expectancy.

The thing I like about LED backlighting is that it's instant on. You don't have to wait for the CCFL to warm up, unlike original LCD tvs, and it won't fade in brightness either.

Only downside is that it still uses LCD pixels, and your blacks are only going to be so good. Using different technology to replace the pixels themselves, so that they are the source of the color and light, is the future of display technologies.

In any case, I'm sure it looks pretty kick ass in comparison to older LCD tvs.

I sell this stuff for a living, have for a looooooooong time in an upper end audio/video shop... honestly, if picture quality is the primary concern... plasma has still has the BEST picture. Even at all the buying shows, everyone in the industry knows this.. Plasma panels can reflect light back in certain lighting conditions, same as SOME LCD's and SOME LED tv's.. the only other downfall is even newer plasmas generate more heat and draw more power than lcd/led. The "burn in" is only temporary, not permanant.. and who the hell leaves their tv on still images for 24 hours anyways....
I game on my pana plasma all the time, its in a bright area, i wouldnt trade it in for a LED or LCD.. I wish they still were making Pioneer KURO Plasmas.. those panels create the most realistic/ amazing images i have ever seen, and ive seen em all

KURO was by far the nicest plasma panel I've seen.

Only thing I don't like about plasma is pixel shift. Some people don't see it, but I do and I find it extremely distracting. Same reason why I'll never own a DLP projector (the colour wheel).
