Who else has this issue that interrupts "so to speak" their passion for BBing?

I always had a love for BBing since I was just a lil shit, but unfortunately my work did not allow me to stay as focused on training/diet as I would have loved to be!

I have been in the Oil Field as my first job, and still today. I get stuck out in a Camp Shack in the middle of no where which makes it hard to hold on to where you had left off 3 mths prior (sucks) lol

I am gonna change my career for myself and my family and get 150% serious about the sport I've always loved the most and do what I have wanted to do since I was a lil boy and try a comp or 2 perhaps!

Yeah, work has always screwed up my lifting, in one way or another it seems.

But I have paid the piper, and in the years to come, i should have more, and more and more time to commit.

Summers were always bad for me, and I often do not train, as I am so beat after work. Winters were always slower, so I could train 5 times a week and not skip a beat.

I was working 8-6 sometimes 8-7 shifts last summer, I still managed to workout after work for a couple of weeks but after 2 months I was completely drained and actually got really sick for the first time in years. I wouldn't try it again, I'd rather work less hours, get enough rest and have time to go lift at least 4-5 times a week.

For me it's honestly not the job; it's friends and family. I'm trying to lean down a bit now and it's virtually impossible. Festivals here, concerts there, bbqs galore. Whenever I turn down something, I feel really bad because I'm potentially letting some people down and taking away fun times from myself too. I WANT to be there but I also want to take this as seriously as possible but it seems they conflict often.

it's really hard sometimes =(

I hear you my wife is colombian and there is something going on all the time and they just dont understand my diet and no drinking policy. It usually isnt that fun to be sober around a bunch of drunk people anyways.

Summer is very tough. That's why I decided to put a cage in the garage. No having to wait for a station to come open, get it done fast...was missing waaay too many workouts before.

**** i agree on this 110% working in a factory with 35 degree celcuis whether 8 hours a day or worse midnights kills my desire to go to the gym...

I take some time off from some of my work before a contest. Childbirth coach.

I work long long shifts..the last one was 33 hours and I ate crap. NO sleep and was mentally drained for days after.

If I were getting ready for a contest with advance notice of these kind or hours I'd pack chicken on ice..whey and carbs like instant oats.

Be a boy scout and always be repaired.

It makes for long days....but my job is loose enough that I can train when I want, for as long as I need.

My job blows for bodybuilding. I work in a welding fabrication shop, crawling around all day kills your joints, and pre-heating 7 ton pieces of steel to 250 degrees then welding on it for 8 hours just drains you. You have to drink so much water to stay hydrated you feel sick. That shit is so hot you can feel the heat radiating 10 feet away.

my job is GREAT for hitting the gym...
work from 6:00 am to 8:30 am
off until 2:30 so I go to the gym, prep meals and get cardio in...
then work 2:30 until 7pm

split shifts suck, but I make the most of it

That's pretty much the key....I made the best progress when I was a hermit at home not doing jackshit. But it didn't make me very happpy at all.

Man i was in the same boat!! Only it was logging camps for me and believe me the food that we got served sometimes was downright unedible. I know what it feels like to have made some gains when you shift out, only to loose everything when you go back to camp.

I changed carreer's recently, i'm home every night, train regularly and eat properly, and have made my best gains in the last year and half since i can't remmember when... God i love this sport!!!

What?! are you serious! Man do you have even the slightest idea how good you have it... They ONLY pay for your apartment and schooling!? I was doing school full time, paying rent, working a job nights, paying for my OWN school (yes....that includes books) and still managing to make it to the gym. Your complaining about them paying YOUR rent and making you pay them back for YOUR books... JESUS COME ON!?!? :beat

again, good for them.

Their money is their money. The worked hard for it and how they choose to spend it is up to them. They don't owe you an education. Their responsibility of raising you technically ends when you are 18 - you're an adult now. Time to act like it :)

I was in the construction industry for many yrs, now im not travelling but do the same job...........Just got into a position in the last couple of yrs where i can train much easier than i was....I was in buttfu.. nowhere most of the time, leading crews of up to 170 tradesmen.....It wasnt easy to get in the gym when there wasnt one, so i did whaty i could...
I finally got to compete last yr and it was awesome...Now i have a couple of shutdowns to contend with every yr...plus a bit of unforeseen emergencies...I still manage tradesmen, but the group i have now is a managers dream come true...they make my life easy and i try and do the same for them, we get along great and they know i compete etc and dont require me to be around some of the time if a job goes to overtime....which is awesome....So i am sitting real good right now for next yrs show.......
Finally things have came together.....
I often wonder what would have happened if i would have had the opportunity sooner...who cares though as im in my BB prime...lol...im going to run with it now....:lick
I also have a great partner that also works with me@ the same place and same company (cool) and we do most everything together, makes the cooking and prepping so much easier...even though so far she has more first place trophies than me...sigh

WOW... I was kinda thinking those two boys were joking...
On top of working, AND training at the gym AND doing up to 3 hours cardio AND practicing a fitness routine AND having a 16 yr old daughter who I raise myself (who plays premiere soccer) AND taking gymnastics class AND sewing my posing suit and costume AND having 86 year old Grandparents who i do all thier yard work and basic home maintenance AND paying a mortgage AND cooking all my own food and my daughters food AND still getting in a little family time AND doing everyting else every person gets to do (laundry, cutting grass, shovelling snow etc).. I would WELCOME just having to go to school to learn anything... even something easy like rocket ****en science!!

Boys... no sympathy from any of the parents out here... or anyone who didn't grow up in a family where our rents made 120k... (enter any "we was soooo poor..." joke here)

I require my job for BBing. I would concider it quite labour intensive, lifting steel plates around etc, welding. But on weekends when I hit the gym without it, my metabolism is shit and I have no energy. The AC in the gym is a nice treat after spending 8 hours in shit hot air.
