Big shout out for Ron Partlow. Many would just give up after coming close to pro status so often. But he is tenacious and never quits. Huge props.
Ron is an uncrowned pro, and hope that will be changed to crowned this weekend.

Zoa Lindsay and Melody Spetko are both entered right off of Nationals.
Zoa placed second in an INSANE heavyweight class (by One Flipping point) and was shockingly NOT awarded a procard (I guess they CBBF was too busy handing out flipping bikini cards the week prior)
Melody placed first in Masters and 4th in Heavy... and is super flipping ripped and looking for a Procard...

no shit. i looked at last years nationals in quebec and they gave out 7 pro cards. yet this year they give out 3??? something is drastically wrong with that senerio.
that or maybe the CBBf cant afford to give out more pro cards this year when the OPA is suing them for 1.8million dollars.
good luck to all canadians!

This has become a large and very competitive event, since it is open to Canadian, U.S. and Mexican citizens. And the last few years, some of the Mexican athletes have done really well.
I wish everyone the best.

From what I know, that is not a complete list of competitors. As stated above, there is another weigh in this morning. So all the competitors should be listed by late afternoon. Via Facebook, Ron told me he was going.
Figure and bikini competitors are measured for height classes. Men and women BB have to weigh in for weight classes.

Correction they gave out 5 pro cards. Two wildcards were given out for open mens HW and LHW class winners Greg and Emboya. The CBBF has the discretion to give out more pro cards if they feel the recipients have the potential to be competitive pros.

RON is there guys. He will weigh in today. He flew in Thursday, and had a bad flight. The plane was 45 min late leaving Edmonton, he almost missed 2 connections, and then they circled Clevand for an hour when they got there. When they landed, the steering on the plane wouldn't work, so they waited an hour to get towed in to the airport. Hopefully the show goes better than the flight, lol.
Oh, it looks like Leon Eastman is there too.

Well, I just heard from RON. Unfortunately, he got called out in the 2nd group. Flex Wheeler came up to him and said he definately had him picked as in his top 5, but the judges didn't agree. I can't speak for RON, but from his comments, I believe he feels he was definately overlooked. Said most SHW's have massive waists, and the judges don't seem to be peanilizing them for it.

I gotta agree with TGR's post. Mass seems to be the norm and second is cuts when it comes to super heavyweights.
So tonight is prejudging and tomorrow is the main show?
Ron Partlow
28-08-2009, 07:02 PM
It's hard to be perfectly accurate in shot text messages, but what I meant to tell Steve was that some fo the guys do have big waists, in all classes, and are still doing very well. i didn't just mean the Supers. Some of the guys ahead of me also have smaller waists too, just to be clear.
Ryno came up to me and said that he first saw me and was very impressed and then surprised I wasn't called out. I was too. It seems like they skipped over me and when I was posing, I didn't see any judges looking at me at all. I expect to get beat by everyone in my call out because if they don't look at you they can't place you, right? Pics will tell the story so i'll wait for those I guess.
Flex said he wanted to "do something for me" and I took that to mean something MD related. We'll see. RXMuscle might come to my room and shoot me tomorrow too, so I must have caught some attention.
Very disappointed, but I must say, this is the deepest lineup I have ever seen at this show BY FAR in the last 3-4 years. The class was no joke, that's for sure. Almost every guy had ripped glutes and was in great shape, so to get told my condition was great by so many people was a plus.
Had a lot of problems with the flight and what it did to my body (14 hours travel time on Thursday, didn't get in until 10pm Thursday night) but no excuses.....we dealt with it pretty good and got me out of the hole and on stage. I was a mess Friday morning, my body did some really weird shit that HAD to be travel related since I've never seen or felt it before.
Thought I looked good and was told by many I was better than last week at Nationals.
Cheers
Ron

I'm trying really hard to change my way of thinking... but no matter how many times I hear it... I can NOT take "bikini" seriously
Ron... your posing routine at Nationals was truly entertaining! I think you looked great up there! Lousy about your flight and travel problems... no matter how much to try to not let it get to you... it still does. Plus you're so dang young and cute you've got alot of time to get the recognition you deserve!! (cutest little nose in all bodybuilding!!)

Hey everybody there are a whole bunch of pics of me by myself over on MD. I am really happy with them and possibly the best package I may have put on stage ever, but I have to wait to see video to know for sure.
There are also some comparison shots. Try to ignore the first two front double-bicep pictures because I didn't know they were only giving us 2 seconds to hit shots. Without sounding like a whiner, I don't see how you can actually compare guys when they are in the pose for a total of one to two seconds. I don't even think I got to flex my arms before they said front lat spread. LOL. Way too fast to look at four or five guys.
Lesson learned. At the NA's, you pose FAST.

I always thought her physique was superior to a few of the other women who placed higher, unfortunately she didn't pull together a "total package" look as well... sucks when BB becomes a beauty contest.

Good work 69C. Looking foward to the complete results tonight and the pics. I'm just really starting to get interested in the competition world and who is who. Seems the standard bodybuilder in Canada doesn't really know much about the competitors unless they are a competitor themselves. And even then it may not guarantee that they know eachother or about eachother.
Hopefully, as a community, with everyone pitching in a little, we can start changing that and bring these competitors some recognition in their own country and not needing to go to the US for it.

totally agree!!
I think the internet is helping to form a "community" of BB (fit/fig)
It's funny that I find at Novice cheering for girls from my gym... Provincials still girls from my gym (because almost all of us made it to Provincials HAHA!!!) at Nationals cheering for people from my province OR people I have made freinds with on the internet, and at an international level, any Canadian!!!
(and once again I would like to express how SHITTY it is that canada is so cheap with the procards that our amazing Canadain athletes are forced to go abroad to compete... where (at least in womens bodybuilding) they DOMINATE the sport)

Agree 1000%! Incomprehensible that Ron is not already a pro. He presents better development than some of the athletes I've seen in pro shows.
I went through the class pictures and Ron e should have been in the top 5 at least from what I saw. Given all the problems he had getting there, he competed admirably.
This is one of the deepest North Americans I've seen. And the women BBs and figure competitors were astounding on the whole. Props all around.

This is what happened last year at this show , with Canadian Marc LaVoie winning the overall in open and masters. So only one men's pro card was awarded instead of two.
Supposedly, a new rule was supposed to be instituted where the runnerup in overall would be offered pro status in such a case. Not sure if that is in effect.
Anyway, Zoa looked amazing and deserved her placings!

Cheers
Ron
Going by the pics this is definatley the best you have ever looked, and that is an accomplishment right there. Your legs have always been a problem, like mine, but this year they look really proportionate. Good job. This new style of training seems to really agree with you, and given another year hopefully there will be no question.

thanks everyone for your support -- COCO I LOVE YA GIRL, I READ ALL YOUR POSTS TO JOSEPH TOO... :) hugs to you!
just gettin' ready to go to the mtg this morning and get on stage == my attitude at this show (1st time) is to enjoy the hell out of it and have a blast. all of which i'm successful at and i haven't even gotten on stage. this is a great show so no matter what happens i'm HAPPY.
here is a pic from thurs night crappy lighting etc sent to my coach Noel Fuller to chk in. let's hope my conditioning holds this morning too ;)
Zoa, congrats, and I mean a BIG CONGRATS to you. Your trip back to North America has been a successful one. It didn't happen in front of many of your family and friends, but it happened none the less!! You're a pro now... ENJOY IT!!!!!

Just saw on MD that I was 6th. I am a bit relieved at that, as I felt pretty invisible up there, but placed at the top of my call out, beating Kirk and Sean who are both National champs and bigger names. That's cool i guess. Everyone can look at the pics and see what they think.
I'll go back to the gym and thicken up. I felt the last few months of off season things were really starting to roll for me, so I know where to start as soon as I'm ready.
Thanks for EVERYONE who has been cheering me on and supporting me this year. I love my fans and friends, and everyone here at CBB.com and CBBR.
Time to rest and have some fun with friends and family.
ALL the credit in the ****ing world goes to my wonderful girlfriend Carrie for being there for me every step of the way and truly devoting herself to the success of my bodybuilding. She is a champion.
Cheers
