NEW YORK (AP) - Roger Clemens said former trainer Brian McNamee injected him with the painkiller lidocaine and the vitamin B-12, according to the first excerpts released from the pitcher's interview with CBS's "60 Minutes."

In the Mitchell report on doping in baseball, McNamee said he personally injected Clemens with steroids in 1998 while they were with the Toronto Blue Jays, and with steroids and human growth hormone in 2000 and 2001 while with the New York Yankees.

Clemens issued a video statement on Dec. 23 denying the accusations and plans to hold a news conference Monday, a day after the CBS interview is to be broadcast. Clemens' lawyer, Rusty Hardin, also has made repeated denials.

During the interview, recorded last Friday at Clemens' home in Katy, Texas, Clemens was asked whether McNamee had injected him with any drugs.

"Lidocaine and B-12," Clemens responded. "It's for my joints, and B-12 I still take today."

Lidocaine is a local anesthetic that can be used by dentists and in minor surgery. It also is available as part of ointments used to treat skin inflammation.

Clemens told CBS that McNamee's accusation was "ridiculous" and said he "never" used banned substances.

"Swear?" CBS's Mike Wallace asked Clemens.

"Swear," Clemens responded.

Yea ok Clemens....Mr Potato head :D

even if he did, the amounts said he tyook are a complete joke. couple shots of deca? wtf, these guys play 162 games a year, couple shots od deca wont do shit. growth horomone was said to be 3 shots over a 2 week span, what the hell could that do?

personally though, hes innocent till proven guilty. you cant take the word of a ex- steroid dealer as proof. that doesnt fly in a court of law when someone uses a witness with a rap sheet.

i also think Bonds is innocent! as Victor Conte himself has gone on record even before he was rung thru the ringer, saying Bonds was never ever on the "program". he finally just trained properly and ate properly.

i watched it too and they said he was injected with 3 shots of winstrol and 3 or 4 shots of hgh. what are you going to get from 3 shots of hgh? you're not going to change the outcome of the whole YEAR from such a small amount.....plus he had outstanding years the year before he took them and the year after he stopped.

having said all that, i'm not really surprised he took them, he's 45 years old playing pro-ball at an elite level........but a lot of crappy players have used too, so its more than a few shots that make you great. he's still one of the greatest pitchers of all time, no question!

Watched the interview he and his lawyer gave to the media with the taped conversation Clemens had with McNamee. Interesting. Almost made it sound, in my opinion, like McNamee was out looking for some cash...to help his dying son of course. Of course there were no confirmations or denials but an interesting listen nonetheless.

I think it would be fantastic if it came to light that Clemens had never used. Imagine how this would reflect on those, government investigators especially, who are witch-hunting all these athletes. There would have to be some questions asked then I imagine. Of course, if Clemens does have his guilt validated, then he'll look like a putz for all this denial he's putting up right now. No matter which way the axe falls on this one, regardless, his name is mud anyways. The allegation's already been made and the stigma will not be removed because there will always be doubt.

To be honest, who really cares if he did or didn't? Who really cares if any of them did it or didn't? The government must figure, as many have already suggested, that this is some P.R to make it look like they're accomplishing something worthwhile. This, in light of the fact that they're not necessarily making much headway with other criminal activities (ie. hard drugs) which impact American society much more. Interesting how an athlete can put on display and go down in shame but the C.E.O's of major corporations can defraud, cheat, lie, embezzle, etc millions from their shareholders and it becomes a blurb on page 9 of the newspaper. Except for those 'die-hard' baseball fans, no one really (and truly) cares. Unless this continues on, who will remember this in 6 months, or a year? or 5 years? No one still talks about Jose Canseco... I for one hope he can disprove these allegations and pave the way for other athletes to question the governments big-handedness. One wonders how far this will spread? NBA, NHL, NFL, etc.. if they're going to be fair, then they'd have to open it all up.. to be honest, I don't really care (admittedly, I'm not big into major league sports of any kind).

I think the majority of them do..but ya who gives a fack! Can you imagine your joints after so many years of playing ball....they should at least be allowed to use GH and low levels of test for there health. I think your either a good ball player or your not....it's in your genes.

Maybe they should all check in at those anti-aging medical clinics they advertise (as in California) where they administer GH, test, etc.. to help maintain quality of life for those getting older.

Well if they have to administer it themselves it would be a pain....but if they prescribe it for you...then your all set. Not sure why they wouldn't have gone that route.
