As much as I would like Brock to win, I would have to bet on Carwin. I don't remember Brock ever really getting his bell rung, so I don't know if he can take a punch. Carwin can throw wicked bombs, and if one connects on Brocks chin, it's over. I pick Shane Carwin to KO Brock in the 2nd.

Com on guys ya Mr.Carwin is Brocks largest apponet big deal!Unless he has magicly aquired some real MMA skills he will not last long. The guys who built my house are from Southern Manitoba right on the border with North Dakota. They hunt with Brocks brother since they were kids,he told them a story of brock takin a hammer to the head and cracking his skull open.Never knocked him out so all this talk of him taking some clean punches to the head to finally bring him down...think again.Strength, cardio, fought and beat some of MMA's best heavyweights, confidence, steps in the ring at almost 290lbs and faster on his feet then most Lightheavys......not rocket science suprized if it lasts more than a single round.

Turns out it'll be Brock Lesnar vs. Shane Carwin, UFC 106. I'm not quite sure exactly when that date is or what city it's gonna be in however, this should good be a great fight, or possibly a very quick one.

What's your guys take on this match up ?

Carwins the only guy to come the closest in terms of the Size/Strength of Lesnar.

Carwins weight last fight (against Gonzaga) was about 255 or so. Lesnar has to cut to make the 265 lb heavyweight limit, then comes into the fight usually around 275 to 280.

IMO Brock has everything to lose, Carwin has everything to gain. I think a fight like this will finally showcase what skill Brock has, as his opponent will actually be similar in size.

I'm not hating on Brock either, it's going to be a battle. I'm excited to see this fight, I think it is going to answer a lot of questions. May the best man win.

In regard to one of the above posts, I dont know if competing in a lesser wrestling division is going to make as much of a difference in the octagon as it would on a college wrestling mat. I guess we'll see.

I think ALOT of people are overlooking just how badass of an athlete Carwin himself is.

Carwin was a multisport scholarship athlete who won a Div 2 national title (cross divisional matches among the elite individual sport athletes are often MUCH more competitive than team sport talent disparities). Lets not forget he was drafted (in 98' I think to the NFL).

Carwin record has alot of cans, no doubt - but 11-0, with eleven finshes, and none exceeding the 3 minute mark speaks for itself IMO. Heres a few quote from a common training partner of both men - Ron Waterman:
“[Brock] probably walks around a little bit heavier than Shane. But it’s not a huge difference. They’re both extremely strong. I might give athleticism to Brock’s side, but the technique to Shane a little more. He’s come along with his ground and stand-up. He’s got good submissions now.”

“I think they had a few similar opponents. I had Brock in town with me here in Greeley and I took him to the gym to train with me one day and Shane was there: I introduced them. This was six or seven years ago. They met for the first time. They were talking back and forth about Stephen Neal and other common opponents they had wrestled against. They had real similar outcomes.”

“If they come in to wrestle, Brock might get the first takedown. But if Shane plays his cards right and is looking to defend and keeping him away and setting it up with punching, I’d give it to Shane. It’s a chess match. It’s about who comes ready to play that day.”

IMO, a coin toss fight - when you have 280+ lb men throwing leather with 4oz gloves whoever lands first wins. Think im gona roll to this event, and ill be rooting for Carwin

I think it's going to depend alot on the shape Carwin comes in at. I don't think he is 260lbs in the majority of the photos on the net. He is cut up in alot of them but I wonder if he'll come in fairly soft at 265?

Brock will make weight and prob be 15lbs heavier by fight time.

Should be a great test for both men for sure.

Lesnar pulls out of UFC 106

By THE CANADIAN PRESS

Brock Lesnar .THE ASSOCIATED PRESS/Las Vegas Review-Journal, John Locher
UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar has been forced to withdraw from his title defence against Shane Carwin next month because of illness.

The UFC said Lesnar had been unable to train for nearly a month.

The mixed martial arts fight will be rescheduled in early 2010. The light-heavyweight bout between former champions Tito (The Huntington Beach Bad Boy) Ortiz and Forrest Griffin has been pushed into the main event spot at UFC 106 in Las Vegas on Nov. 21.

Lesnar's manager said the fighter essentially ran out of time to recover and get ready for the Carwin bout.

"He is doing OK. He's very disappointed about having to pull out of the fight," Brian C. Stegeman said in an email to The Canadian Press. "He's basically had flu-like symptoms (e.g., fever, respiratory symptoms, exhaustion) and it's just built up and gone on since camp started four weeks ago. He's been miserable.

"Even after resting all week last week and over the weekend, he tried to train this morning and there was just no way. Even if he recovered somewhat by the end of this week, he would have only been left with two more training weeks (to) prepare, so he didn't really have a choice at this point.

Carwin, via Twitter, referred to H1N1 flu.

"Looks like it (the fight) is postponed till Jan 2. I had h1n1 myself and I understand how devastating it can be," he wrote.

The Lesnar-Carwin bout matches up two of the division's behemoths. Lesnar (4-1) is six foot three and 265 pounds while Carwin (12-0) is six foot two and 265 pounds.

Lesnar is a former NCAA Division 1 wrestling champion while Carwin was a Division 2 champion and two-time runner-up.

Both also have football on their resume.

Lesnar, who was also a star in pro wrestling, had a tryout with the Minnesota Vikings. Carwin attended the Senior Bowl but injured his back, opted to go back to school rather than play Arena Football.

The postponement is a blow for the UFC since Lesnar is one of its biggest draws.

Wow, that is really shitty....i do not think i am willing to pay $50 to see Forest and Tito go at it again...I lost a lot of respect for Forest after he ran out of the Octagon after his last fight with Silva...

Same here gus.. thats the second time he's done that. He ran out balling like a baby after he lost to Jardine as well. I hope Tito smashes him.
