Thought this clip was a little too good for the off topic section. One of the most incredible lifts I've ever seen.

Incredible power... tosses 500lbs overhead like the bar was empty!

I just really don't like the physiques of 99.9% of the Oly super heavyweights...

I don't think they care.

It sucks they removed the clean and press from the the sport. I don't agree with the "too hard to judge argument" and mark rippetoe has a pretty good explanation as to how it can be judged fairly consistently.

Hell you don't even have to break parallel in half the P/L feds anymore and they are still chugging along just fine! (awaits massive flame war)

The difference is that in powerlifting, the lifters pay for this sport. The best lifters in the world make no money and have crappy jobs. There's tons of different feds in the States and you can choose to compete in one where your ass has to hit the floor for the lift to pass or you can compete in 1 where a 1/4 squat gets passed.

Canadas a different story, we've got the IPF... deep squatting, and we've got the CPO, legit wide stance squatting depth.

Olympic lifting is and OLYMPIC sport. ie Worldwide. IE you win a gold medal you're a hero and set for life. Kids are taken off the streets and raises to be lifters from the time they're children.

If you want big overhead lifts just got watch a strongman competition.

The video I posted was a world record lift (for 3 minutes). Many people believe the lifter who broke the record, Vasily Alexeev should have been credited with a no lift.

I've never seen a strongman competitor press 500+ pounds.

You know, I didn't even realize they were just doing an oh press... I was wondering why the guy wasn't using leg drive... I've never seen anyone do a 500+ OH until just now myself...

Me too.I saw Alexeev perform a 545 c&j in Dec 75 in Montreal at the forum.By then his delts were massive. As he clutched the bar he would loosen up his delts causing the mass to swing back and forth the way somebody would shake their quads....

the eliminated the press as too many people were being injured not that it was hard to judge a good press from a bad one.
