Olympic lifting stuff always amazes me. Probably because I've never really tried it. Made me think of the 48kg woman from China in the last Olympics:

If you didn't already feel weak...

i do overhead squats as part of my strength training routine with my trainer and i can vouch for their supreme difficulty factor with less than half of my body weight. very useful exercise at building core strength and proper squatting technique.

overhead squats really show you how to incorporate your back muscles to your advantage to lift the weight.

Ok... we tried these today!!
Little leigh (who can squat like 60 pounds more than me) can NOT do them with just the bar!!

I can do them pretty easy... (with just the bar), the movement is a little weird but easier than normal squats for me... adding 10 lbs to each side was still ok to lift through the legs but my little arms got sore and started shaking like Grover from sesame street! LOL so after 6, Leigh had to help me out a bit... (mind you it was after normal squats and 3 sets with the bar... so I'm holding out and going to try it again!)

Good stuff Dryvrgrl! I did them on Friday. 65lbs for sets of 10. I found them pretty easy (balance wise), hubby can't do them...lol. My goal is to do them with bodyweight.

Haven't tried yet. I ran out of arthritis meds and had a week off them before I started back up again. I"m so stiff in the morning and all the old injuries are aching again. Balls of my feet are so bad in the mornings I want to crawl out of bed and where I broke a rib a few yrs ago aches too.

Old...I'll leave them for you young girls dears.

I've worked out with Nicole... she's an awesome, bad-ass chick!

I have our clients doing these OH Squats and many of the O-lift variants a lot... by performing movements that require so muscle to work together (vs isolation movements) you create a HUGE stimulus for the body to respond... unfortunately, most commercial gyms have banned movements like this as they deem them too dangerous... haha

Definitely worth the time to get these though, but unless you are a gifted lifter, you will require a competent strength coach to get you there.

Keep up the work on those O lifts JifeLacket! You will be happy u did!

Snatches are another great exercise bodybuilders should be doing more of, and less leg extensions...

Oh ya, and more FULL squats - means crease at hip must be below top of knee at bottom of ROM. If I see anymore 160 lbs guys with tooth pick legs doing 300 lbs "1/4" Squats I may start yelling! haha
