Whether it be from GNC Clerk, or some MOMO at the Gym, even a buddy who thought they knew it all in Weight Lifting

What is the WORST ADVICE in bodybuilding you ever got?

"You shouldn't lift heavy weights. It's bad for you." - my wife.

The unlearning that my wife needs to do is epic. Her sister is a 180 pound 5' 2" food teacher who is the recognized nutrition expert in the family (oh lord). Yes and "too much protein is bad for you."

according to my strength coach (who is a competitive olympic lifter) using the over under grip is not helpful at all. both hands should be placed in the over position with a pinched grip for maximum load capacity, with elbows locked out to prevent forearm / bicep involvement in the lift.

i had to rehab my biceps all summer from using the over / under. just recently have they healed and no longer bother me after hockey.

What your coach says is partially true...the problem is most guys who are elite level PL cannot hold onto the bar with an over hand grip...this is why the over under grip is utilized. For BB use straps and an over hand grip.

Your body only can digest x grams of protein per meal. It always makes me wonder if I eat 6 pounds of beef in a sitting. Should I not be shitting a few pounds of indigestible roast beef? Or how about, when you stop lifting all that muscle becomes fat. I just love hearing that from the rocket scientists who are in underwater basket weaving courses.

sweatpant guy- "yeah well men don't find muscular women attractive"

Agreed. I'll blame user error over advice error. Over/under is a common DL grip.

Mr. Frank Zane says the same thing, overhand grip only with straps or hooks to go heavy.

I was i year on Aug 14 and took my medallion this past tuesday. Props.

I am in the same boat, I abused myself badly for years even though I worked out and did live the lifestyle in between. I got off fairly lucky except for exposure to a lung disease while working in a health care facility as I have another month of these stupid ass pills that can cause liver damage(****ing irony gets me consdiering my liver showed up ok a year ago, compared to five years ago)

I won't rule out HRT if my wood goes south because i would rather do that then pop viagra/cialis. Might as well have something that will enhance my tree stump and help me look good/feel younger at the same time haha

worst advice for me is anytime anyone tries to tell or sell me on the idea that a certain training, supplement, cardio or diet regimen is the end all , be all to mine or your goals.

Most if all ideas are new takes on old ones anyways, just repackaged in a way that is moire attractive and different to what someone was doing so of course there will be change initially at least.

Don't get me wrong i dont mind nor care what is repackaged, just stop trying to tell me it's the best and only way

Some Skinny kid working at Golds told me i cant digest more than 30 grams of protein and that if i got another scoop in my post workout Smoothie that they make that it would be a waste and wouldnt let me get it. I still see this guy workout and i am sure some of the old ladies at the gym lift more, and more more muscular than this guy.

That is always my favourite! Not that anybody's given it to me per se....I'm already a fat guy...but I still think it's a freakin' funny thing to say.

I used to love to lift heavy, put my ear phones in and just focus..... anyways gym owner comes up to me one day, middle of my bench and starts informing me my approach to working out was all wrong. Pyrimad sets and max lifts and negative reps are extremely dangerous. I was wasting my time and a bad influence in the gym. - " When i was in the best shape of my life i couldnt even pack my own groceries to my car" .... his exact words!! (he is big into cycling) anyways as he informs me that i'm not the kind of gym rat they wanted in his facility i was already on my way out the door looking for a new gym....

I had my first experience with this today. I have been using a dip belt at the YMCA that belongs to one of the employees and have permission to use. But i guess one of the ladies there i don't know if she's a trainer or not and i hope not but she would not let me use it, her reasoning was that it is far to much of a liability, and the belt is unsafe to use. So she did not stop there she started up with her genius suggestion that had me dumb founded..... She recommend i load plates into a back pack..... I don't think this ladie has ever lifted a 25 lb plate in her life she is in terrible shape and told me that this was a much safer way to support the weight. So i was thinking about this as i continued my workout, how much weight is a back pack designed to hold? my guess is around 30-35 lbs. So put 2x 45 lb plates (they are to round to fit anyways) and you would break the bag for sure, but lets say it you get them in the bag, on your back (and they don't dig in horrendously) and it breaks while i am up in the air, i tuck my legs into my body while i dip to throw some abs in while i dip and that would break smoke my legs and then potentially damage the floor.... i was very surprised by this suggestion... so it has increased the severity of my dip belt purchase. And i will be making mention to her the substantial flaws in her "idea"...

The absolute worst advice I've heard was given to a young guy using steroids by an idiot at the gym, he basically told him to masturbate twice a day in order to keep his test level up during his cycle ... now try beating that one! :)
