Not that it's terribly good entertainment but based on the judging, placings, drug and competition policies it seems a lot more like the WWE than sport.
The more I try to follow this as a sport the more completely confused I am.
Should I be disappointed? entertained? or am I being silly?

funny how ppl dislike bodybuilding because of the drug usage but beating the shit out of a person in boxing or MMA is perfectly tolerable to the mainstream.
goes to show that as a society we really are nothing more than neanderthals

Neanderthals that learned to create electricity. Take away the few simple things from us and watch how un-civilized we become. Jesus when the power goes out for more ten 24 hours people go on stealing sprees. PS Nate YGPM

hmm anyone who has watched Ronnie Coleman yell 'light weight babay" or "ain't nuttin but a peanut" seconds before he squats the weight of the world on hit back for reps knows it is sport and entertainment.
If I look at the big picture well there is athletics involved(workouts cardio) competition(posing and comparing your goods against your peers) and entertainment(individual posing and the hilarious online debates that take place on all the boards) . So it is both , and its also a pastime and to some art.
It is very dysfunctional though where the fans will slag some poor bastard who gets 10th place in a pro show as fat even though his bodyfat is about 15 points lower then the average man and poster at alot of bodybuilding boards

Any sport that is subjected to judgeing is not a sport. MMA, sailing, and yes darts, etc are sport, there is a clear winner. The fastest, the first place, the highest, the hardest hitter, this is sport. Not points given by judges.
My daughter was an international TKD competator. Now i'm not takeing away from her commitment and dedication to her training and the sacrifices she made to get to this level. I'm extremely proud of her accomplishments. But TKD is not a sport, it is subjected to a judges whime.
The biggest joke out there for me is Olympic figure skateing, and yet its huge with the viewing public,, go figure.

but boxing and mma also have the option to win by knockout or submission, and diving and gymnastics has numerical values attached to every trick which are then multiplied by a perfect score minus any mistakes that occur.
Bodybuilding is a pageant.
