My wife has 2 children from a previous marriage, both good kids. The oldest 17 asking to use my Hummer (just a truck). Now I know what it's like to be 17 and what I would do with a Hummer if I was 17 but just curious on what some of you dads out there would do?

Risky either way.. if he is a responsible kid and just wants to impress the ladies..let him.. but if hes the type that might party and have a few beers and drive it.. then no way.. depends on his personality id say.

Have a sit down with him. Let him know that you're putting your trust in him to be responsible with your baby.

Get one of those tracking devices on it or may not see it again :)

There are a few inexpensive tracking devices now. Both passive loggers and others that require a SIM card.

Dam INked that's a tough one, my son is 18 so I can relate. You have to let him prove he can be trusted. At the same time I know what I did with my Dads car when I was that age LOL.

Some kids are more mature than others. What did he want to use the Hummer for? A date, going to a friends place, cruise around? I guess your decision also would have lots to do with his past behavior.

I have a newer 4x4 and I personally wouldn't let my son use it. My son had to buy his own car but that's just me.

Also if you let him use it make sure he is covered on your insurance. With my insurance only people with 10 years of at no fault accident free driving are covered and they have to be living in the same residents as me.

Absolutely not. I portrayed the "type anybody can trust" at that age and still do, but at 16 (I didn`t even have a liscence to drive yet) my dad would let me drive the car. But it was only to go to my friends house and back. He let me do this because it was very cold where we lived back then.

I would go for joy rides every night. Going further and further everytime, going out of town as well. Would go in parking lots doing donoughts and just having a good old time. I developed I liking to drive fast at a young age and willingness to try stupid things in cars and motorcycles.

Plus if he`s a lady`s man, he`s gonna wanna try to do some crazy shit to impress them. I say what good is a tracking device for when it will lead you to a trashed up Hummer?

If and maybe if you had an old beater, I`d maybe consier it, but a an alpha type vehicle like a hummer is just plain crazy talk in my opinion. Besides, I don`t honestly think he would hold it against you if you didn`t lend him the truck. I`m sure he understands it`s not you everyday run of the mill type of vehicle. Maybe go for a drive together before letting him have it to himself first. But then again that can just lead him to expectations of having the truck...

Tough decision for sure.

The tracking device can warn you of excessive speed, travelling to or stopping in certain areas...

that 800 dollar toyota tercel is looking like a good idea eh? Help him buy an older car, but make him pay you back. If he has to pay for the car, gas and insurance, he may surprise the hell out of you and show you he's a stand up guy you can absolutely trust.

Haha hell yea. My first truck was a mazda b2000 for $300:

Me and my dad worked on it a bit before we could plate it, but me and that truck had some good times. But that's what happens when you grow up in a small town in Saskatchewan. Your friends sell old beat up vehicle back and forth for $50 and you go out and trash em lol. This is a picture of me and my truck a few years ago right before everything(brakes, lights, horn, etc) stopped working and I sent it to a scrap yard. You could spend $300 in gas for the hummer, or you could buy him an old beat up truck like mine and make him appreciate it lol. I drove the piss outta that thing until the day it died!

Lots of rain here and tons of mud just outside the city he see's 4x4 out there all the time and I have taken him there before and let him 4x4.That being said I'm sure he had visions of hitting a party and grabbin some ladies, turning up the subs and locking the hubs. This was stressin me and just as I was going to hand the boy the keys his mom piped up and said no way!He took her car.I see myself coughing up a few bucks to get him his own set of wheels to "****" in.What's next he will want to use my Hog?Maybe my rocket sled is on his list for a winter toy?Inked don't share his toys. This is my first year with the kids and it's a learning experience to say the least. Both good kids,he's a juinor A hockey player and she just won World Dance Competition in Niagra Falls a few weeks ago,won it last year in NY to this girl has mad skills.Let her use the H2 in a heartbeat when she can drive in 2 yrs.

I hate to say this, but mad skills on the dance floor does not equate into driving skills. My brothers sister in law is an awesome horse rider with tonnes of National awards, but she has wrecked 4 cars in 4 years.

ya know what is so funny, when the girls are the youngest we get away with everything lol. It wa great having an older brother bc he broke in the parents...when I started going out and driving they were much more relaxed...but then again we (meaning girls) are so much more well behaved ;)
