My mom is competing in this, she just got 6th out of 30ish at the arnold amature.

She just texted me! fuuccck im pumped. 1st callout in both open AND masters.....
she said she just needs to kick some ass in one piece round which is coming up!
and she is 5'4" soo figure medium i believe...

she is a great coach, used to be a top national bodybuilder getting second to a girl who won her pro card that year, but she just got out of the bodybuilding thing and toned it down, wanted to do figure instead.

hahaha ill let her know.. and yea grade 9 one buddy found the website and i didnt hear the end of it till about grade 11 lol but its all fun of highschool i guess eh LOL.

but i am loggin'er off here, i will come up and post as i find out more info on winners and such and whos lookin to take top spots!

she's in great shape! She's basically proportionate to what they are looking for, just proportionately larger everywhere. She has the perfect shape, nice lines, just too thick for the way figure is going. She has improved quite a bit since '06 !

I should add that in a totally different lineup, she could have been the winner. I find its easier to isolate someone who looks "different" then the rest and say she's too muscular etc. In a lineup with 5 muscular girls and someone more streamlined like kim tilden, you might have had the judges saying melanie was the winner, and isolating Kim to say that she lacks the size to compete with the top figure girls at the ifbb. Weird sport eh! Basically, in my opinion melanie would place higher at the olympia than kim if they both were allowed to compete.

I appreciate your input steve!! yeah... I was BLOWN away when she didn't make top 3. we sent out another girl with more muscle for her height (medium) and she placed like 12. It is dissapointing to me the way this "sport" is going. Oh well... I have a long way to go before i am anywhere even close to having "too much muscle" for anything... but i'll NEVER pull short of my maximum potential for fear of getting "too big" in some judges eye!!

Yeah welcome to figure...Although, years ago when it was the bigger girls winning, there were a lot of complaints then. Its a very bizarre sport to be in, especially now where we still don't know the ideal look AND the fact that all the girls look so different in 1 lineup that it makes it even harder to judge.


It might be disappointing the way its going, but personally I'd rather see a more streamlined look win then someone who "could" compete in bodybuilding. The best look in my mind would be someone who would get destroyed in a bodybuilding contest, but would also look too muscular in a typical bikini contest (miss hooters, miss hawaiian tropic, etc). I think that's what they want for figure, but judging is a different story because its rare that someone fits that bill to a tee (in smaller local shows that is), and what the judges are left with is ranking ms. hooters vs. miss olympia! who wins?
