I currently do not supplement my diet with additional omega-3. Is it something I should start to do?

IMO yes. Omega-3 (specifically fish oil) has numerous documented health benefits.

Cod liver oil is one of the best and cheapest source of omega-3 you can find.

Here some links supporting what I'm saying, Cod liver oil is one of the best Omega 3 source. A lot of lies has been made by Omega complex sellers because this product has really cheaper.
Doctor Price was right, as usual. Cod liver oil is very good for you, more than you ever knew. Research studies ranging from 1918-2001 give cod liver oil an A+ rating. This marvelous golden oil contains large amounts of elongated omega-3 fatty acids, preformed vitamin A and the sunlight vitamin D, essential nutrients that are hard to obtain in sufficient amounts in the modern diet. Samples may also naturally contain small amounts of the important bone- and blood-maintainer vitamin K.

But what about the DHA content. I say choose the omega 3 source with the most DHA. This will either come in liquid or high potency caps.

GEO is right. Cod Liver oil is a second rate supplement when it comes to getting omega-3's. It was good in its time, I personally wouldn't use it now with highly purified pharmaceutical grade fish oil supps available.
Cod liver oil is probably the worst. Stick with Wild salmon, or a mixture of fish like mackerel, anchovy, and sardine.
cod LIVER oil. I.e. The body's garbage can.
Yep most Caps out there are a Mixture,i take them as well.My cap are anchovy, sadine, and Salmon by Swiss.Yes Cod Liver oil is bad, most are Rancid, and you will know once you Burp this stuff up.

^^^ C`mon dude you should know better than taking 3,6,9 caps. Plus I really don`t think taking 2 caps is going to do anything.
The matter with Cod liver oil is that you could have problems by taking too much Vitamins A or Vitamins D not that is not a good omega 3 source. Also, when using non bio fish oil or cod liver oil may contain a lot of toxin. Plus taking caps is nearly uselles since it contain few part of DHA/EPA daily needed. That's why it's a better choise to take liquid fish oil who contains about the equivalent of 12 caps per teaspoon.
What are your sources here to tell that Cod liver oil is a bad, second rate or rancid. It's the same procces for both of them.
Cod liver oil and fish oil processing
Most of the fish oil sold in the United States as dietary supplements come from Anchovies and Sardines caught off the coast of South America. Cod liver oil comes primarily from Nordic waters.
All cod liver oil and fish oil for dietary supplements is refined to a greater or lesser degree. Refining requires heat under vacuum, bleaching clays, deodorization (molecular distillation) and winterization. We cannot classify any of these processes as gentle or natural, however they are necessary in order to produce a safe and pure product for human consumption.
Molecular distillation is the only method currently which can remove metals, PCBs and other toxins to below detectable levels for human consumption. Cod liver oil and fish oil produced using molecular distillation is more expensive but it is a better product.
I spend a lot of time researching the best prices for supplements on the internet, and in my opinion the best prices for high quality cod liver oil are hereicon. The best prices for high quality Omega 3 fish oil are hereicon. You may also like Puritan Pride's special "Buy 1 Get 2 FREE" promotions on cod liver oil and fish oil.
The concentration of DHA/EPA are the same and the only difference is that Cod Liver Oil contain vitamin A and vitamin D. So just think twice before saying everything from your mind please. I take both of them, it's just that CLO is cheaper than real Omega 3 (from salmon per exemple).
In the book Fat that Heal, and Fats that Kill,by Udo Erasmus he isn't a big fan of Cod Liver Oil.

For sure that stuff is high quality, but just did a little math here. In one of those bottles you get 50 000 grams of dha for about $38.
My costco omega pills have 48 000 grams of dha for $25 (they don`t give nasty after burps either)
I have some Now brand omega`s comming that will probably cost 1/2 of what the costco pills did and will give about the same amount of dha of the cosco ones.

I use the Nutrasea stuff as well, 2 tablespoons per day. I didn't realize that pills would actually be cheaper. I might have to go to Costco and have a look. Can always count on Ritch for finding the best prices.

Solid Canadian company with good ethics as you will read. Their products are good value for a quality Omega and definitely worth the few extra bucks in comparison to your 'pharmacy' like brands...IMO of course.

How much Vitamin A do these cod liver oils supps contain?
long term mega dosing on vit A can be really toxic
It contain vitamin A and D and both of them can be toxic if taking in big quantity.
We have pointed out that concerns about vitamin A toxicity are exaggerated. While some forms of synthetic vitamin A found in supplements can be toxic at only moderately high doses, fat-soluble vitamin A naturally found in foods like cod liver oil, liver, and butterfat is safe at up to ten times the doses of water-soluble, solidified, and emulsified vitamin A found in some supplements that produce toxicity.(1) Additionally, the vitamin D found in cod liver oil and butterfat from pasture-raised animals protects against vitamin A toxicity, and allows one to consume a much higher amount of vitamin A before it becomes toxic.(1-3) Liver from land mammals is high in vitamin A but low in vitamin D, and should therefore be consumed with other vitamin D-rich foods such as lard or bacon from pasture-raised pigs, egg yolks, and oily fish, or during months in which UV-B light is sufficient to provide one with adequate vitamin D.
As a general guideline, we recommend the following doses of vitamin A from cod liver oil, along with a nutrient-dense diet that contains other vitamin A-rich foods:
Children age 3 months to 12 years: A dose of cod liver oil that provides about 5000 IU vitamin A daily
Children over 12 years and adults: A maintenance dose of cod liver oil that provides about 10,000 IU vitamin A daily
Pregnant and nursing women: A dose of cod liver oil that provides about 20,000 IU vitamin A daily
Individuals under stress or wishing to use cod liver oil to treat a disease condition may take much larger doses, even up to 90,000 IU vitamin A per day, for a period of several weeks.

Do you know the makeup though? There's 2.9g of omega3 in a tbsp and it's dirt cheap. Even if 20% of that is DHA/EPA it's a decent supplement.
