So we are looking at buying a family ski/wake board boat, some of the manufacturers we are looking at are

Rinker
Campion
Sea Doo
Sea Ray
Malibu

So what are the advantages/disadvantages or your preferences and why of, Jet Drive, Stern Drive, V Drive or Direct Drive propulsion.

Thanks, TT

for practicality and skiing jet drive is the safest user friendly way to go. As for driving it is quick and easy to drive and manuveur and is pretty forgiving if your new to the water. I agree a malibu is the top notch but you can pick up a rinker or even a forwins ski boat in the 90s that will be cheap and reliable (under 20k at most)....so malibu are badass but so are the prices and its just a ski boat. If your going to spend that kind of money get a offshore (fountain, older cigarette racing, formula, baja)

go with a canoe. a REALLY nice one will be around $1000, and it will never break down on you.

I know the prices guys as we have looked at several we are trying to make the final decision, we are looking at new, 20' to 23', and in the range of 45 to 70k. There was a gorgeaous Campion 217 for 47k that I may be leaning towards. There is also the Sea Doo 200 speedster we are looking at seriously or the Sea Doo 23' Challenger.

The Jet drives are obviously safer when in the water but I have never drove one, what about handling on a large lake in some bigger waves or chop?

I have drove lots of boats but never owned one and it has always been a stern I/O that we were in.

Mastercraft makes the nicest/best boats IMO. You can get a used Xstar for around 60k. That's the top of the line wakeboard boat.

I wouldn't cheap out on one, it will be lacking power and reliability.
