Last set, managed to tweak something in my neck... was from my right arm/shoulder during military presses using DBs.

It's right behind the top of my spine, and just to the right.... is getting worse as the night progesses.. I can barely move my head side to side right now. I think I actually aggravated it when I went ahead and did shrugs.... doh!!

Any recommendations? Stretches or......

Last time I did that I needed physio.

cream/gel didn't do shit, not surprised.. took some ibuprofen.. in the US, physio would be out of pocket, so hopefully it gets better quick on it's own. so far in a lot of pain, cant move my head side to side at all.. limited movement. still awake (4:50am my time).. dangit.

i'll try ice tomorrow (err, later today) after i try to get some sleep

ive had this happen to me many of times, the only thing that worked was just time and ibuprofen. try not to move your neck a lot.

does it hurt to move your shoulders or neck in anyway? i've strained one of those muscles (splenius capitius, scalenes, levator scapulae, ??) before and it made my neck stiff for a while..

took me about 2 weeks to feel better.

would a 'nerve pinch' cause inflammation? i'd think that it could cause tingling and or numbness...?

ill bet you pushed your neck forward to far and got a spasm......i get them all the time with military press......I am starting to do them again to the front and its ok...If i even go to far to the side, my neck cranes a bit and wonk, every friggin time, then im done for a bit...you can get ART that can help fast.....I just get CC to work it with hr knuckles and get in there, it helps, but still sucks .....

Did the same thing two winters ago.

Went to chiro and physio MWF for six weeks.
Went to massage weekly.

Went to DR, massage, Chrio, took xrays, couldn't see anything wrong. Went to physio, seen me, and 2 seconds, said I have a disc out in my neck. You could actually see by standing behind me that my neck was crooked.
For pretty much the whole month of December, I layed in bed, couldn't sit up right for more than 5 minutes, which would put pressure on it. Took about 8 weeks to be fully recovered.

Went to a new chiro beginning of this year, and he said it was still slightly out.

im fairly confident it'll sort itself in a couple days.. its still painful to move my next/head but i have a feeling it'll heal ok. im rather annoyed with myself though.. have to miss another workout.. first it was back to back migraines, then a mild case of food poisoning, which i actually had yesterday and worked out anyway.. felt like crap, now this. f@ck!

ah well, if i make it without having to go to chiro or physio i'll count myself lucky.. sounds like some of you had it much worse.

just wondering if this was because of the Dumbell military press too?

Dang, that can't be the same shit as when it required a script. They used to give that to take down inflammation affecting a nerve. In any event,it sounds like kloan needs some kind of realignment in his neck/upper back.

but then i went and lifted too much with flies and pinched a ****in nerve again, this time on the left.

how the hell am i supposed to get stronger if i injure myself every time i try to lift heavy?

Imagine there is a pen at the top of your nose and draw a 8 in front of you by rotating your neck.

Yeah, I was doing dumbell presses. Not super heavy, I ended up doing about 8, and felt it on like the 4th rep, but it wasn't bad, and kept going.

Hours later I could barely sit, couldn't turn my head too much, was at gf's christmas party, and I had to keep leaving to recline in a chair outside the room.

Might be time to take a week off from the gym or reduce your weights 10-20%.
I find that when my body starts breaking down instead of getting stronger I'm either overtrained or hitting it too hard or both.

nah man i cant take another break.. i just recently took off 2 weeks. i think i just need to be more careful. i get so caught up in my workout i think i can go heavier, but then i get to about 6 reps or so and start to peeter off so i start pushing too hard, lose my form, and suddenly pinch! something pops.

I do this every few months, it almost always happens to me when Im doing shoulder presses. Last time it happened, i just finished pressing 90's and when i put them back on the rack i felt it go.

Warm up slow and do neck stretching before you do working sets. Tip your head all the way forward and push on the back of your head with 2 fingers. Then tip your head to the either side. If i warm up like this, it never happens. If I just jump in and do a heavy press right away, it happens every time. The first time it happened was halfway into a week in mexico and it wrecked the second half of my trip.

Its always gone 3-4 days later though, it sucks either way. Good luck.

Thanks for the suggestion.. I'll try doing neck stretches before I do anything that involves those muscles..

It's happened three times in a row now.. this last one was really bad. Ended up going to a chiropractor ('non-invasive' chiro?).. after the first session woke up in a ton of pain, went again today and it feels much better.. guess I have to take a break afterall... DAMN.. just when I was startin to get goin again!

Ah the joys of what we do, eh?

I do it all the time when I hit shoulders and go heavy presses. I go to my chiro and he fixes me up right then and there.

Glad to hear everything turned out fine. I would have offed my self long ago if it wasn't for my chiropractor.
